Class Info
Individual
Classes follow a structure but will be adapted to meet the development of your baby and to accommodate for your level of mobility. In yoga practice we encourage listening to our bodies and working within our limitations.
Bonding
Eye contact, touch and gentle massage are a key concept of baby yoga as well as reciprocal communications. These concepts have been shown in research to help promote strong healthy bonds.
Healing
The body needs to heal and restore following birth, thats why alongside baby yoga the class will encompass some postnatal yoga. This slow and progressive practice will help to close and strengthen the body after birth.
Relaxing
Relaxation is an important element of both classes and helps to ground and give space to the caregiver. The body and mind need to be able to relax and allowing yourself the space to do so can be invaluable. We must nurture ourselves in order to nurture others.
Development
Moves and stretches focus on stimulating the senses to encourage development. Vestibular, proprioception and interception systems are activated frequently throughout the class. You will learn innovative ways of approaching tummy time without the tears
Philosophy
We do yoga with babies, not too babies. If your child does not want to join in there are other things that can be offered to get the most out of the class. The space is safe for children to roam, and the classes are designed to be fluid to the child’s needs.
What to expect
The body benefits from movement, and the mind benefits from stillness
Baby Yoga
Non-mobile Babies
For non mobile babies you can expect lots of singing, touch and gentle massage for baby. There will be a gradual introduction to some of the classic baby yoga moves as your child gains strength. In amongst this will be some slow and progressive postnatal yoga focused on healing and closing the body after birth.
Baby Yoga
Mobile Babies
If your baby is mobile you are welcome to come to the class for as long as your child enjoys it. Mobile babies will be given progressions of the non mobile baby moves. These tend to be more dynamic and fun to entertain growing babies. Postnatal yoga is intertwined throughout the class to help reduce tension, strengthen and continue to help recover the body and mind after birth.
